Ryan Air ‘Free Flights’ Sale - Again

October 9th, 2008 by Pia Taylor

Ryan Air Free FlightsIt defies logic, the idea of free flights, doesn’t it? It must cost an awful lot to fly a plane from place to place, so why on earth would anyone want to charge nothing at all for it?

Well, whatever the bizarre reasoning behind it, budget airline Ryan Air has gone one step further than £1 flights, and is now offering them for nothing at all…

Backpackers, of course, aren’t the sort to complain about such things (nor ponder upon them at any length) and will no doubt be snapping up fares to help them get around Europe much more cheaply.

The offer is on selected one-way flights to and from Europe between the 23rd of October and the 16th of December 2008. It even includes taxes and fares… Book until midnight tonight!

October 2nd, 2008 by Pia Taylor

Rocking The Daisies In Darling, South AfricaRocking the Daisies is an eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival taking place in Darling, a small town in the be-flowered Cape West Coast area.

Spring time in the Cape is a sight to see… The spectacular displays of the Western Cape’s floral kingdom are quite something to behold.

Not only does this relatively new (but very popular) festival offer some of the very best local talent, as well as an international guest star, Eagle Eye Cherry, it’s also one of the greenest festivals in the country.

So, if you’re near Cape Town this coming weekend, and fancy dancing in the daisies, all weekend long, see if you can snap up a ticket and head on over to flower-ville.

Tickets for the weekend cost R320 (27 euros). Find out more here.

Ryan Air’s slashes its prices, then slashes them again

September 30th, 2008 by Pia Taylor

Ryan Air SaleWell, if £5 for a one-way flight to somewhere in Europe sounded like it was too good to be true, how does £1 sound?

Ridiculous, is what, and the mind boggles as to how Ryan Air makes any money from selling their seats so cheaply! But, naturally, penny-pinching backpackers generally ain’t picky, and the lowest fare is always the best fare.

“At Ryanair our unbelievable Winter seat sale offers just keep on coming. For just £1 you can fly to the European destination of your choice this October and November. This incredible £1 offer is inclusive of taxes and charges. Do not let this sensational offer pass you by. You have until midnight Wednesday to book your bargain getaway. Log onto Ryanair.com for more details of this £1 offer and BOOK NOW!!”

So, if a dirt-cheap plane ride is something you’re keen on, get yourself to Ryan Air before midnight tomorrow (GMT). You’ll need to be logged in to find out about the special, so if you’re not already signed up, now’s the time to do it.

Less than a month to AfrikaBurn, Africa’s Burning Man Festival

September 24th, 2008 by Pia Taylor

AfrikaBurnWell, they don’t seem to have updated their website to indicate it, but Afrika Burns this year became ‘AfrikaBurn‘, and will again be setting up camp in the hot dusty Karoo, a few hours’ drive from Cape Town, South Africa.

Like America’s more famous Burning Man, upon which AfrikaBurn is based, the event is one of ‘radical self-reliance’ and freedom of expression:

“It is an exercise in total self-reliance: participants camp for four days and provide entirely for themselves, including all their water, shelter and food needs. The entire festival is created by voluntary participants who invest their own personal skills, resources, time and money in the shared project of self expression and creating, for a few days: a Utopian vision. If you come to Afrika Burns, you must participate in whatever way you can. We want no spectators. “

This year’s event takes place between the 16th and 19th of October, in the temporary village of Tankwa Town. It’s not the kind of party where you pitch up and hope for the best, so make sure you read the FAQ, study the survival guide and pack accordingly!

Burn tickets are available online until the 10th of October (R350 for a weekend ticket). Or, pay R400 at the festival gate (closes at 7pm on Saturday 18th October).
